About Gourds

Gourds are very closely related to cucumbers, squash and melon family. There are three types of gourds; cucurbita, or ornamental gourds; the lagenaria, which encompass the large, utilitarian gourds; and the luffa, or vegetable sponge. Most people use the cucurbita gourd. Gourds have been grown for both ornamental and utility purposes for years. You can make different musical instruments, such as a drum or shekere. Gourds come in all kinds of shapes. No two gourds will ever be alike.

Gourds are mostly used for decorative purposes.  You can put potpourri in them or weigh them down with pebbles for a flower arrangement. You can all so use them to put coins or keys in. Use them in a bathroom for face clothes, cottonballs, Q Tips, etc.
